Matthew 6:21 - 'Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.'

This is a very interesting verse. It says that our heart is where our treasure is. Notice it's not the other way round. It's easy to think it might be the other way round: where your heart is, there your treasure will be. We may think that if we set our heart on love, our friends and family, then thats what we treasure. But Jesus knew what he was saying, when he said, 'where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.' What we treasure and hold on to is what governs and controls hearts. This means that whatever we concern ourselves with and hold on to, is where our heart will be.

Our life is a reflection of our heart. Whatever we allow into our lives and hold on to is what reflects into our heart.

So if we are holding on to money and material goods, then thats all our heart will be focused on. Our heart will be polluted and consumed with money and wealth which will also affect and shape our character and our thoughts.

If we're holding on to grudges, anger, unforgiveness, then thats where our heart will be, surrounded by negative aspects, filled with bitterness and pain, which also affects our minds and attitudes.

But if we treasure and value the things of God which are everlasting and not perishable, our hearts will be close to God, filled with love, joy and peace.

God wants our heart, all of it, not half or a quarter, but 100%. He wants to be the centre of our focus. All our love and attention should be set on God.

But if we focus and priorities other things, then our hearts are far from God.

Jesus noticed that the Saduccees and Pharisees thought that their hearts were focused on God, but it wasn't. They were concerned with money and pride, this was where their hearts were. It wasn't focused fully on God. They were serving money and themselves, rather than God.

We can't serve 2 gods. We can't have half of our heart on the world and the other half on God. God deserves our whole heart, our everything!

Everynow and then we need to go through a heart cleanse and find where our hearts are, what its focused on and what its serving.

We must ask ourselves, where is our treasure? What are we prioritising? Where is our heart? What are we focused on?

God can see our hearts, where it is and what its focused on. He wants our hearts to be pure.

If we are not sure where our hearts are, we can ask God to search it for us and see if there is any offense in us, so that he can lead us in His everlasting way.  (Psalm 139:23)

Our heart is the wellspring of life and we must guard it, protect it and be careful of what we expose it to. (Proverbs 4:23)

We need to refocus our minds fully on God and allow Him to rule our hearts so that He can provide us with what we need to protect and nourish it.

Remember our lives is a reflection of our hearts. Whatever you make a priority in your life is where your heart will be.

If God is our priority in life, then our hearts will be filled with love and peace and we will never lack anything, because when we seek God first, then everything else that we need will be given to us. (Matthew 6:33)
