In some places of work, staffs are sent out to do team-building exercises to learn about effective teamwork.
On these trips, staff will usually have to complete a variety of tasks and challenges to learn how to work together.
I'm sure we have heard the saying that 'there is no I in teamwork.' This means that every team member has a role to play and together, they put in their individual efforts and contribute to achieving goals and targets. Each input is valued and when a goal is achieved, each person who played their role sufficiently in the team is acknowledged and rewarded.
God with His awesome and mighty splendour can do anything by His own might.
But God also works alongside us in partnership. He allows us to be 'co-workers in His service' (1 Corinthians 3:9), so that we can contribute to our goals and purpose with Him.
We can work with God and have perfect teamwork with Him! This means that our works and efforts are valued and never go wasted. Our input counts and is needed, combined with God's divine input to perfect the goals.
God works with us and at the same time, He guides, directs us and finalises our plans.
But first, we need to make a start with our input by planting the seed. When we plant the seed, God makes it grow (1 Corinthians 3:7).
This seed could be a step of faith, trust, letting go of our fears or handing over our prayers, plans and goals.
Anything that starts with God will prevail, because when we commit our plans and goals to God, He will ensure that they succeed (Proverbs 16:3).
God is the key ingredient to making things happen. But at the same time, He also allows us to make a contribution with Him.
We start this off by planting our input and applying our God-given talents into whatever we wish to achieve.
When we use our talents efficiently, we are one step closer to achieving our end purpose.
In the Parable of the talents, each servant who used their talents effectively by making the first, initial step to plant their seed got their reward.
When we do our best and make an effort, we get our reward according to whatever put into it (1 Corinthians 3:8).
When we apply our efforts, God does the rest. That's perfect and effective partnership with God!
Just like God rewards us for our part, we also need to give thanks to God and give Him his due.
He always does His part and never lets us down because 'He doesn't sleep nor slumber' (Psalm 121:4). He always wants the best for us.
God co-operates with us so that we can have an effective personal and working relationship with Him.
We are privileged to be called friends of God and have the opportunity to have a firm partnership with Him too
Perfect & effective partnership with God
