We were all created in God's image so that we can have a close personal relationship with him. He is our creater, saviour, redeemer and above all, he wants to be our friend too.

There are many parents who have good friendships with their kids, while still being parents. God is our father but still wants a friendship with us, where we can talk to him whenever we please and ask for help when we need it.

How do we start of creating a close friendship with God? By being obedient, doing what he says. We might not see obedience as a sign of friendship because we would probably associate it with a relationship with a boss or someone superior. But God's friendship with us is different from earthly friendships. He insists that obedience is a condiition for intimacy with God, everytime we trust God and serve him faithfully, our relationship with him deepens. When we draw near to God, he draws near to us (James 4:8). We have the opportunity to get close to God experience his everlasting love, warmth and comfort.

Jesus calls us his friends because he communicates with us and include us in his plans. That's a firm partnership!

In John 15:14-16, Jesus says "You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead I have called you my friends." That is so comforting to know that Jesus wants us to be close to him, he sees us as more than servants, he speaks to us, he wants us to know what he does, be part of his plan. The only condition is that we remain faithful to him. Abraham remained faithful and believed him in, and was called 'God's friend.' (James 2:23)

We should desire an everlasting friendship with God, it's the best relationship we could ever have.

He will call us friends and will never desert us. He will always be there for us, regardless of what we do or how many times we may hurt him. How many of our friends will be that patient...
